Honey Caramel Apple Tart
Inspired by Chicago’s love for caramel apples, this tart uses honey for a deeper, richer flavor.
Ingredients
For the Crust:
- 1 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
- ½ cup unsalted butter (cold, cubed)
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 3-4 tablespoons ice water
For the Filling:
- 3 large apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp, thinly sliced)
- 3 tablespoons butter
- ¼ cup honey
- ¼ cup brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
Directions
Make the Crust:
- In a bowl, mix flour, sugar, and salt. Cut in butter until crumbly.
- Add ice water, one tablespoon at a time, until dough holds together.
- Wrap in plastic and chill for 30 minutes.
Prepare the Filling:
- Melt butter in a pan over medium heat. Add apples, honey, brown sugar, and cinnamon.
- Cook for 5 minutes until apples soften. Stir in vanilla and cornstarch. Cook 2 more minutes.
Assemble & Bake:
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Roll out the dough and press into a tart pan.
- Add the apple filling.
- ake for 35-40 minutes until golden.
Cool & Serve:
- Let cool before slicing. Serve warm with ice cream!
